How The Lunar Eclipse of May 2023 Will Affect Your Zodiac Sign.

Updated: Apr 29, 2023

Full Moon embraced by the sign of Scorpio
Lunar Eclipse In Scorpio

The Full Moon of May 5, 2023 is the Flower Moon, so named in honor of the flowers that bloom in May. Alternatively, it is known as the Mother’s Moon, the Milk Moon and the Hare Moon. This lunation occurs at 10:34 AM PDT in the sign of Scorpio. This moon enters with a metaphoric bang. Not only is it full, not only does it take place during a penumbral eclipse, but it occurs opposite Uranus, meaning that we are all in for some transformative energy; especially if you have natal placements between 6 and 22 degrees in a water or earth sign.

Eclipses occur when the sun (representing our self-image and ego) does battle with the moon (our emotions and innermost feelings). This frenetic and chaotic energy has a way of heightening our emotions and altering both our reality and our perceptions.

Some people shy away from doing even the simplest rituals during an eclipse due to the unstableness of the lunar energy. They will not even put their crystals out to charge under the moonlight. Others believe the chaos enhances their magic and rituals. I prefer to use eclipse energy for meditation and journaling. However, I encourage you to experiment and see what works for you.

This eclipse occurs while the moon is still below the horizon for North America so we, on this continent, will not be able to view it. However, it’s effects will be no less valid.

Read on below to see how the May Full Moon and Eclipse will affect your zodiac sign.

Aries & Aries Rising: This eclipse highlights your 8th house of shared resources, “other people’s” money, sex and death. Matters surrounding wills, trusts and inheritances may arise. Jupiter in your sign is square Mars in Cancer which may prompt you to consider risky investment opportunities. The eclipse forms a quincunx with Chiron in your sign which may bring up old wounds surrounding betrayals, sex and intimacy. There’s no shame in seeking the guidance of a relationship counselor if relationship issues are causing you pain.

Taurus & Taurus Rising: This could be a rough one for married and committed Taureans. This eclipse is hitting your 7th house of marriage and partnerships where it will oppose Uranus. To add fuel to the fire (pun intended) Mercury is combust in this house. The Eclipse/Uranus opposition and the combust Mercury could combine to cause discord and arguments in the relationship. Since the eclipse occurs along the axis of personal vs shared wealth, arguments about finances could occur. Now would be a good to reassess the agreements that you and your spouse or committed partner have regarding how you combine and spend your finances.

Gemini & Gemini Rising: This eclipse is working overtime in the 6th house of routines, service and health. On the one hand, you have Venus sextile Jupiter, which is as good as it sounds. This combination enhances your naturally flirty nature and would usually make you feel and appear popular, happy and attractive to potential mates and raise your stock with employers; however, the eclipse could have you doubting the earnestness of those who are heaping praise and flattery on you. Then you have the Venus square Neptune to contend with. This aspect could lead you to idealize or romanticize people or situations. The lesson here is to carefully evaluate any job or romance opportunity that appears too good to be true.

Cancer & Cancer Rising: Oh my dear Cancerian, this eclipse is throwing shade on your 5th house of fun creativity and dating where Mars is busy making all kinds of aspects. Mars square Jupiter makes you want to expand and experiment while Mars trine Neptune has cast a glamour over you that makes you appear sexy and inviting to those looking to dip into the dating pool. Yet the combination of Mars in Cancer, Mars square Chiron and Mars trine the eclipse could leave you moody, argumentative, defensive and hypercritical. The challenge here is to remember the nurturing aspects of your natal sign and show a little grace to yourself and to those who you feel may be coming up short.

Leo & Leo Rising: This eclipse is hitting your 4th house of home and family. Your mother or your status as a mother take prime importance right now. You may experience nostalgia or déjà vu concerning your childhood or your natal home. If ancestry interests you, now would be a good time to do some digging into the family roots or shaking of the family tree to see if any new leaves fall out.

Virgo & Virgo Rising: Your 3rd house of communication, community and siblings is taking the hit this month and its ruler, Mercury, is retrograde. You may experience communication breakdowns with your neighbors or siblings. Virgo is the natural ruler of the sixth house so you may experience work related mishaps or errors. Be sure to tone police any emails that you are sending in response to a supervisor or manager and put a little extra effort into keeping yourself organized.

Libra & Libra Rising: Your 2nd house of personal assets and finances is being affected now. You may finally receive closure on a business deal that will increase your salary or you may receive payback of money you loaned out to someone. The key theme here is to expect or work towards closure on an issue that affects your personal finance.

Scorpio & Scorpio Rising: This full moon & eclipse occurs in you first house; the house of self. Scorpio is about transformation and the moon here is opposite Uranus, the planet

of transformation. You’ve also got that Moon trine Mars energy working for you. Now is the time to work on transforming yourself. Use to waters of Scorpio as a magic mirror that allows you to reflect upon yourself and your life choices to determine where changes are needed.

Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising: Your 12th house of the unseen, the occult, secrets and solitude is being hit by this eclipse. Now is the time to go against your restless, nomadic ways and spend some time indulging in grounding activities and meditating on the words of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence”.

Capricorn & Capricorn Rising: Your 11th house of friendships is highlighted. It’s a gentle reminder that friendships need to be tended to and community needs to be nurtured. Remember that being part of a team or community can lead to even greater success than can be achieved by flying solo. In the words of that old African proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with a friend.”

Aquarius & Aquarius Rising: This is a powerful time for you. Pluto is retrograde in your 10th house of career and public standing. The eclipse forms a loose sextile to Pluto which in turn squares the North Node. You’re like to be re-evaluating your values and goals; some you may keep some you may discard and the Pluto retrograde will have you plotting out ways to bring those goals that you plan to keep into reality by any means necessary.

Pisces & Pisces Rising: The eclipse is occurring in your 9th house infecting you with the bug to travel. However remember that the eclipse can expose our vulnerabilities and weakness so take added safety and health precautions while traveling, especially in unknown territories. Saturn is in your 9th house meaning that if you do decide to travel during this period, you may experience delays and restrictions. Saturn is also sextile the North Node. Like Aquarius, you may be re-evaluating your goals and plans, but unlike Aquarius you will go about achieving your goals through tried-and-true methods and within acceptable guidelines. You will seek to go with the flow instead of trying to change its course.
